skull cake...

It was my bestie's birthday this week... and as she is as obsessed with skulls as myself... I thought I would use it as inspiration for her birthday cake....

garden of disorientation...

Yesterday, D, Limi & I jumped on a train across London to meet Dee & A. at a 'pop-up' event, the Garden of Disorientation

As part of the Chelsea Fringe Festival, Smithfield, a former meat packing warehouse (and execution site of Scottish patriot William Wallace) in North London, has been transformed into an internal fresh mint garden space!

Pallets bedded with mint... tables and chairs made from galvanised steel... bean bags... fake grass... and a funky little bar where all drinks contain the mint grown.

This wonderfully designed space takes you out of London, without leaving London.
And with a delicious Mojito to boot, what a perfect way to end a Tuesday.

the common...

As the weekend arrived & the 'heatwave' continued to capture London, friends and foe alike took to the great outdoors.
And so, in our case, it was 'The Common' - Clapham Common.
For a West Londoner like myself - trekking to Clapham can sometimes be like making the journey to middle earth.
It's not like it is even really far - just more the bus-train-bus or bus-bus-bus trip can be very demotivating!
None-the-less - great weather, great friends & the perfect Sunday afternoon end to a wonderful weekend made the trip well worth it.
Ciders, Sun & Music.
And of course, great people!!

there's a hole in my bucket....

... actually there isn't.
But there is a bucket.
And it is fillllllllllled with water.

Remember the days when a simple bucket of water could keep you happy for hours?
I don't.
But lucky for me - these gorgeous girls are a daily reminder of how wonderful the small things in life are.

Oh!! And they caught a bug...

'It's green! It's green Kelly! It's a green one! Here.. you keep it'

I'm so lucky :)

Here comes the sun...

So it still might be a little early to be singing this song but I'll take it where I can get it.

In Perth, if your conversation steers towards talking about the weather, it is generally a sure sign that you don't have much else to say.

However, in London, it is a whole different ball game.
The change in weather plays such a pivotal part in peoples mood and the dynamic of the city, it is often the initiation of most conversations!

Rain = gumboot wearing sullen faces hidden under umbrellas.
Overcast & cold = scowls as you rush to get from A to B to avoid the chill (and possible rain).
Sun = more people on the street in one day than you would actually see all winter.

When the sun is out, you don't take it or leave it, you take it and run!!

I remember going to the park on the first sunny day after winter - I actually stopped, looked around and thought to myself that there must be an event on. There is no way you would get this many people at a park at home unless there was a fete, or fair, or such.
But no - the english just sure know how to use their sun when they get it.

After weeks of cloudy skies, spouts of rain, and chilly winds - we have been welcomed to a much needed day (or 3) of sun & heat.. and in true English tradition, we too took to the park....

Wrong side of the tracks...

For anyone that knows me well, the words.. 'i live on the wrong side of London' coming from my mouth would not surprise you - if anything, you would strongly agree.

Hippy. Emo.
Dirty.
Vintage.
Peace.
Old.
Challenging.
Cheap.
Artistic.
Freedom of Expression.
Music. Vinyl. Classics.
Love.

Don't get me wrong - I adore the west (all of London for that matter), but there is just something about the east that gives you that sense of letting go of all expectations in life and just being.

For years, parts of east London have been the stomping ground for anyone willing to step outside the box, take a risk & show the world what they can do & who they are.
The constraints, expectations & norms of society do not exist here.

buildings are old. posters cover posters. graffiti covers graffiti.

Artists art. Musicians music.

For all of Australia's advantages and wealth - it is this that it lacks.

It is here - in all of London - that makes me most aware of life. Not what has been. or what will be.
Not when I will get married, or buy a house, or have children, or get a real job.
But what is - right at that moment.
Honest-to-goodness peace - in where I am, why I am, who I am.
